Week 8...which was really last week

Bachelor 5:  Chips and salsa go together like good friends do.

Third date with Bachelor 5!  However, I was starting to feel like we were just friends.  We decided to meet up for lunch last Sunday and he suggested Mexican since this has been a theme in our eating out.  Not a problem for me!  It was fun, but the friend feeling was there and nothing further.  We haven't talked much since then.  I really need to reach out and just let him know.  I really did like him!  I just wasn't feeling it going any farther than friends.  :-(

Rose status:  Yellow rose

Bachelor 7:  Wasn't feeling well last week so we're going to try for the fair this weekend instead.

I'm considering just taking a break from dating for a little while.  I mean, I did just sign up to run a marathon!!!  That should successfully take up my time.  I did just start talking with a guy on Coffee Meets Bagel from Manchester so we'll see where it goes.

Week 7

Dates for this week:

Bachelor 7: Old Connections are Just Like Riding a Bike
First (?) One-on-One date

Truthfully, not our first one-on-one date.  But the first one in over a year.  Hearing from him was completely unexpected to begin with and I went into it not really expecting too much.  For the most part, things with him were the same.  Easy.  Comfortable.  He said many of the same things, but followed through this time.  It wasn't just, "We should do this."  It was, "Let's meet at this time" and then it happened.

First, we went to church.  I was running a bit late so I texted him I would be a little late.  He waited in his car for me and saw me pull in.  I didn't see him when I pulled in, but he walked over and waited for me to get out of my car.  Good move #1.  We walked into church together and once we found our seats I noticed that the song playing was "Great is thy Faithfulness."  Oh my heart God.  Then, the next song was "He's Always Been Faithful" by Sara Groves.  And again, God, my heart.  I felt like I walked into the day with my heart closed off and it was like God was probing my heart open again to trust His faithfulness.  It might not be #7.  But God always seems to speak to me in this way when it comes to #7.  Just an observation I'm making.

After church, he walked me to my car and we decided to go for a bike ride and get lunch.  So we went home to change and planned to meet up at 2.  I was a little early and he was already there waiting for me.  Good move #2.  We hopped on our bikes and biked several miles on the bike path to a little deli we had always talked about going to and he bought me lunch.  It was nice to follow through and just spend time together.  He makes me laugh.  Like unexpected laughter that's real.  But while it was fun and I realized these things, I'm still cautious.  We talked about going to a fair this fall (he's never been on a ferris wheel!!!) and one of the last things I said to him was, "Are we really going to the fair?" and he said, "Yup.  Two weeks.  On my next weekend off."  So we'll see.  I didn't feel the need to ask him "why now?" or what he's been thinking all this time during our time together.  If he follows through, then it will happen.  If he doesn't follow through, then I didn't feel the need to know on Sunday.  I just wanted to enjoy my time with him.  So I did.

Bachelor 5: Bowling for Queso
2nd One-on-One Date

We met at a bowling alley on the Berlin Turnpike and I feel like lots of high school memories came flooding back.  All good ones fortunately!  He was a little embarrassed that we have the same shoe size (um, but I think I should be the one who's embarrassed!), but he got over it quickly.  We found our lanes and put in our bowling names...Betty Sue vs. Stevie.  That was my idea so fortunately he liked it.  We played three frames and would have played more but my back injury was bothering me so we called it a day after he beat me soundly three times in a row.  Of course, I put up a good fight though.  Some good high fives and joking around while playing.  His advice to me is that I need to point down the lane, and then walk away before the ball hits the pins like I own the lane to get a better score.  Next time.  :-)

We went to Chili's for dinner and had some good Queso and chips...which I promptly filled up on.  He asked about Hood to Coast and we got to talking about how we would both like to do volunteer work overseas someday.  I told him how the more I do with World Vision, the more I want to get involved.  It was nice to talk with someone about this who has a similar idea.  We didn't talk too much more about faith, but one thing that I've grown in through this dating experience, is being unapologetic about my love for Jesus and my faith regardless of where the other person is.  And I was this way with him when talking about World Vision.

No future plans to hang out, but some fun texting after we got home.  I'm not quite sure how I feel about him yet romantically, but it's definitely developing into a friendship for now.

Status: Rose

That's it for now!  Of course, The Cop is still hanging around and we are trying to make plans to hang out again.  I recently disabled my OkCupid account because of some of the guys on there.  I just wasn't interested and they were annoying in their persistence.  Also, I told one guy I wasn't interested in him because I was more interested in other relationships and his response was "really you're not going to give me a chance.  wow".  Ugh.  Can't handle it.  That stuff stresses me out so I'm giving that site a rest.

Until the next dramatic date night...

Weeks 5 & 6

Well, last week was kind of a wash in my personal dating world.  Hood to Coast took up all my energy!  It was such an energetic experience though and I loved every single second about it.  Not that there wasn't some good runner flirting going on though.  ;-)  My first leg I ran most of the way with another World Vision runner who was pretty cute.  We were actually at the start together and my team's runner came in first so I started and he caught up to me and stayed with me until we got to the hill that was 3 miles straight up.  If I wanted to survive the rest of the race, I had to let him go and stay at my own pace.  Apparently, he had to stop to walk twice and didn't finish too much in front of me anyway.  Later, our teams met up at a local brewery in Portland and he was very chatty and attentive.  He offered me his seat from across the table so then I was sitting next to him.  Very cute and I would definitely strike up a friendship!  BUT...he lives in Texas.  And I searched him on facebook and he has two kids...which isn't a problem but if his kids live in Texas, that could be tricky since I'm pretty settled here in CT.  But maybe I'll friend him anyway...you never know!

Bachelor 5:  We continue to text and have plans to meet up to go bowling together tomorrow.  He's interesting!  I wasn't sure how I would feel about a second date when the opportunity came up, but I'm excited to see him.  :-)  He's very interested in hearing about my race and I'm still on a runners/fundraising/I-met-Olympians high so I'll have plenty to share.  Keep you posted on our second 1:1 date!

TGFB (Bachelor 7):  This is what I'm going to call him here.  Alicia came up with this a few years ago when I first moved back home and had a VERY significant crush on him.  No matter how many times I move on from him, he always shows back up without me trying.  The past few times, I have just run into him in random places.  The grocery store.  Starbucks.  Church (which isn't too random except that there are so many services to choose from that chances of running into each other is slim).  I wasn't even going to include him on this journey, but he popped up again and we are making plans so since we will be going out, he's included here as one of the 25.  This time, he texted me and reached out to spend time with me which is different than in the past.  I'm honestly not expecting too much, or thinking that it "means" anything (like he got his own place and is now ready to pursue a real relationship or will stop pulling a disappearing act), but it was different.  So we'll see.  The whole goal of dating is to be open to all opportunities that come my way and so I'm open.

Bachelor 6:  Went on vacation and I haven't heard from him since.  Sorry buddy...no rose.

That's all for now!  With two potential dates on the books this week, it promises to be a pretty dramatic week!  Maybe not the MOST dramatic ever, but at least closer to that.

Time for me to do some Bachelorette prep and discuss these options with my girls at the winery today...all former Bachelorettes who can give me advice as they are on their own relationship journeys.  Enjoy your Labor Day weekend!
